An Old Story

Image
Hey! So I know I just posted today, but here's more! So, remember my friend Maya i told you about with the awesome blog? Yeah, her. If you checked out her blog like I said, you'll have seen one of her posts called 'Book Chapter (lazy post)'.  We both love writing, so one time a loooong time ago we wrote two stories together on google docs, and she shared a bit of one of them with you, and I want to share some of the other one on my blog! Introduction: Hi! My name is April Mayflower.  I live in New Jersey with my mom, my younger sister, Margo, and my dog Harvey. I’m 12 years old and I go to New Jersey Day School. My BFFs are Angela Simpson, Grace Morrison, Jessica Tomas and Lola Springs. My dad is in Colorado, to finish a project he’s been working on for a while. But now I have a whole bunch of writing ahead of me, so let’s get to it! Chapter 1 I woke up to the feeling of slobber on my cheek.  “Harvey!” I cried. Harvey was seated on the floor, with a wet mouth and a ...

My Trip!

Image
Hi! I know I said I wouldn't leave you hanging like this, but I guess I have :(.  I've been in Kenya for the past week and I just got back yesterday. We stayed in a comfortable little house with two pools and a view of the ocean! We walked by the ocean almost every day. Besides beach walks I enjoyed tons of swimming, reading, listening to music, and... Did I mention swimming? Plus, the food was amazing! We had two chefs who prepared crêpes, lots of fruit, pasta, fish (not for me!), rice, and more!  Also, one of my great friends from New York named Maya started blogging again after a whie, and her blog is almost as awesome as she is to hang out with! Check out her posts!  https://happeningswithhappenstance.blogspot.com / See you in my next post! (Speaking of posts please write ideas in the comments!!) Bye!

Update

Image
Hey! Sorry I haven't posted in a long time. I haven't had any ideas for a post, but I've got a little update for you today! It's my birthday in a little more than two weeks (15 days to be exact) - and get this, my bday is exactly the day of a national holiday, so we get a day off from school!! -, and I'm so excited! Me and one of my friends are having a shared birthday party because our birthdays are on the same day, and we were planning a pool/spring themed party.  It's obviously going to be at the pool, and we're going to have two seperate ice cream cakes. Other than planning our party, I've been doing things like swimming, eating out, painting, lots of baking, hanging out with friends and enjoying my spring break fr om school!! I hope you enjoyed that quick update about my life so far!  Please leave a comment saying what I should write about next/what you want to know about me, so that I don't have to go on these long breaks from writing again! Happy Easter!!

Image
Hey guys! So, yesterday was... EASTER!! One of the best holidays of all times, next to Christmas, in my opinion. I absolutely LOVE Easter, because every year for as long as I can remember, me and my family have this tradition where me and my brothers will wake up super early, and find a plastic egg at the end of our beds with a slip of paper with a note like 'Where do you put your shirts?' and we'll look in our dressers and another egg will be there, with another little clue, and more and more, leading up to our Easter basket, which was filled with candy and gifts!  Then we'd spend all morning hanging out and playing with our new stuff. This Easter was the BEST. Our cousins who like us, had moved just a few months ago from New York, but to South Africa had come and spent the weekend, and we went over to their house after our basket hunt that morning, where we had lunch, played games and then went on a long hike. When we came back, we stayed in a room while the parents h...

Are dogs REALLY allergic to Chocolate?

So, here's the big answer: Dogs are technically allergic to chocolate, but it depends on the type of dog, and chocolate. Some dogs would be completely fine if they snarfed down a whole chocolate bar! Others would likely face seizures and possible death. Why would some dogs even be allergic to chocolate in the first place, though? Well, it really depends on the dose of chocolate. Chocolate contains two things that are toxic to dogs: a thing called theobromine  and caffeine , which are basically identical, and belong to a group of chemicals called methylxanthines.   I know it sounds complicated, but basically for dogs chocolate = toxic chemicals. Sometimes it is fine if your dog eats some chocolate, and sometimes even a bunch of chocolate! But if it is pregnant, young or has some sort of health problems, keep away!!  In general, it is definitely  not recommended to feed your dog chocolate, (because who wants to take the risk of having their dog die bec...

So let's talk about MUSIC

Image
Hey! So today I wanted to talk about my lovely journey through music! 🎵   I have always loved music, pretty much since I was born.  I remember when I was 3-6 or something like that, I would put on my rainbow fairy wings and gather my family in the living room to sing for them. I would ask, 'Should I sing about a house, butterflies, a hill or a rainbow?' and I'd make up little stories while singing.  I mostly just listened to the songs my parents would play around the house when I was young, but then, when I was 6/7 I would go to my best friend, Imani's house sometimes and we'd play music on their family computer and dance and sing.  My favorite artists at that time were Meghan Trainor, Selena Gomez and Shawn Mendes. I would listen to their songs on repeat over and over again.  Then, I stopped listening to music as much and just had a big gap. During the summer before 5th grade, I believe, I started listening to music again, and started loving Camila Cabell...

Living Places :)

Image
Hey guys! Welcome to another post of mine. Today I want to talk about my living arrangements throughout my life, and how interesting and fun they've been! In New York City, I lived in an old, beautiful appartment building with 14 floors. Back when my parents were young and wide eyed, they were renting out appartment 6A. Then they had me, and moved into 13A, where they could own the place! I loved 13A, and our building. We had the nicest neighbors and friends, and sometimes I would make fresh bread with my dad, and we'd sell it in the building. Unfortunately, we didn't have any yard or whatever, but we did have a small courtyard where the building would have cozy little celebrations past dark, or board meetings. My brothers, who are both sports fanatics went to the playgrounds and parks nearby, where there were basketball hoops and such. I would tag along most of the time to meet up with a friend or to get ice cream. I'm serious when I say: New York was the best. We ha...

Maine Coon Cats

Image
Hey! So, I have a cat.  Here's a few facts about her: She is orange and white Her name is Meeka She is 1 years old (almost 2) Her birthday is June 23 Oh, also... She is HUGE. And when I say huge, I mean the whole package deal: BIG, fluffy, cute. Why is she weighing 13 pounds at 1 year old as a female? Because of her breed. Apparently, her 'origin' is being stray cats, and her mother was a Maine Coon. What in the world are Maine Coons??  Only the biggest house cats ever, and just look at them: (This is the extreme-big kinds, but some are more... normal) (And yes, you can own these in your house!!) Look me in the eyes and tell me you're not in love/terrified!!!! My cat is only half Maine Coon, so she turned out like this: (Still big for her age, am I right??) But yeah! That's it for today abut Maine Coons, but I'll probably be posting more pictures of her later on in my blog! Hope you learned something new.

What in the world is Selah??

Image
Quite literally, I'm a human. But if you want to know about my family and origins or whatever... here is where you'll find out! I have dark brown wavy hair, black-brown eyes, and caramel skin, and I've been called Indian (a LOT), American, South American, and people have even said that my nose looks Chinese?? But here's the truth (just so you know, this is kind of complicated so just hang on!): My mom's mom is part British, part Irish, and grew up in upstate New York. My mom's dad is Ethiopian, which makes my mom mixed and stuff, but she grew up in Seattle. My dad's parents are both Ethiopian and he grew up in Ethiopia, Kenya and Canada, which means... (I'm gonna have a In The Heights scene right here) My mom is American/Irish/British/Ethiopian, my dad from Ethiopia which means... I'm American, Irish, British and Ethiopian... But I always say I'm from New York! Me and my brothers all look crazy different: The youngest has straight light brown h...
